Here’s another site I had heard about and decided to check out: Voice Registry.

 

It’s another site where you can create a profile and upload demos, but it’s not a pay-t0-play site. Instead, it’s really a great resource for (at least new) VO artists. I opted to pay the $84 annual fee for a platinum membership, which has given me access to the Weekend Workout options. Basically, every week they get someone from the industry (an agent, a booth director, a casting director, etc.) to provide you with feedback on a script. They usually post anywhere from two to several scripts, and you can select which one you want to record. Then you email in one take of that script by noon on a Thursday, and by the following Monday that aforementioned industry person has critiqued your performance.

 

Here’s why I think this is great: in addition to giving you exposure to these industry people that it might otherwise take you YEARS to get access to, it’s just always good for us to get feedback from others on our work, particularly if you, like me, spend most of your day in your closet without any other interaction, instead just listening to audition after audition going, “YEAH! NAILED IT” (only to learn, of course, that they went with someone else…)

 

So it’s always good to get a third party’s opinion, and even better to get an expert’s opinion! What a fantastic learning opportunity!

 

Another thing I really like about this site is their “online classes” section, which has lots of good stuff…currently on the site are a class on creating characters with Rick Zieff, an interview with agent Dean Panaro, a kind of “VO 101” with VoicePrint West, and an intro class for long-form voiceover. I’m not sure how often these classes will change, but I’m looking forward to new ones being rotated in, because I’ve already listened to all of these!

 

Lastly, this site has a crossover relationship with VoiceBank.net. From what I understand, a talent agent would have to actually upload your demo to that site…
