We’ve all seen jobs that specifically require the voice talent to either have ISDN or phone patch in their studio, because the client wants to direct you in real time while you record the script. But if you’re like me, relatively new to this game, paying for an ISDN connection or something like Source Connect isn’t exactly your top spending priority. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to be able to have mad amounts of cash so that I could build a super pro home studio with all the bells and whistles, right now.
Sadly, that isn’t my reality. So I’ve got to determine what it makes sense to invest in now, with an ever-growing wish list of items to be added on when I’m bringing in a little more cash. So I’ve had to decline auditioning for those jobs who wanted live direction, unless people were willing to do it via Skype.
But now there’s this great software called SoundStreak, which allows you to create an online live recording session with your client! It’s TOTALLY FREE for voice talent, which is great. (The downside being that your client will have to create an account, and they’ll be billed for it. But there’s also an opportunity to invite clients to join at 25% off, so that sweetens the deal quite a bit!)
There are very simple to follow tutorials on the site explaining how to use the software, and believe me you don’t have to be a studio pro or professional sound person to understand it all. It’s great!
