I admit it, I’m awfully slow on the uptake. I know podcasts have been out there for years, and some have loads of loyal followers. Sad to say, but I’m only recently jumping into the Podcast pool. Maybe some day (soon?) I’ll be smart enough to come up with my own, but for now, I’ve found a handful of really helpful, informative, and yes, even FUN #voiceover podcasts! I’m listening when and where I can, from popping in the earbuds while I’m working out to catching out the latest episodes (or heck, even archived ones) while folding laundry, etc. It’s a great way to learn a ton about the voiceover industry!
Here are a few that I’m now subscribing to:
I’ve actually been a fan of this video podcast for a while now, and Chuck and Stacey are both highly entertaining and have a ton of amazing guests who are tried-and-true experts in the world of voiceover, so you should ABSOLUTELY check this out! They generally publish new shows every Sunday and even have their own app and YouTube channel.
— Voice Over Marketing Podcast
This podcast is produced by Boston talent John Melley and is dedicated to teaching marketing strategies specific to voiceover. HELLO!! Who couldn’t use THAT?!
Voice actor Crispin Freeman, who does a ton of animation and video game work, does this podcast, which gives a lot of advice about getting into the industry, as well as “insider tips and tricks.”
— The VoiceOver Insider Podcast
This is VO talent & coach Julie Williams’ podcast. She does a lot of interviews with all kinds of industry folks, from established talent to casting directors and more.
Kate McClanaghan, who runs Sound Advice, does this podcast, which are usually very short (a few minutes each) and discuss current trends or techniques. An easy, quick podcast to listen to if you’ve only got a few minutes — you’re bound to pick up some good tips!
This is the Voices.com podcast. They get some of their members and other industry experts to record advice, techniques, and answer general questions about working in the industry.
This is Bill DeWees’ podcast, which he produces in conjunction with a friend to give a “week in review” account of DeWees’ work in the booth, including how much money he made each week. While for those who aren’t grossing $5k a week (which is Bill’s weekly goal) it can possibly be a bit depressing, he usually gives some advice about picking up new clients, dealing with being sick and having to record, or other issues that working voice talent face on a regular basis.
This is a podcast from DirectVoices.com and includes interviews, tips and tricks, techniques, etc.
This podcast is produced by the Voxy Ladies, and I’ve only recently subscribed, but it looks like the last posting was Sept. 2013? Not sure how active it currently is…
I was excited to find this one, which touts itself as giving you the opportunity to listen in as a coach (Maya Kuper) directs students through commercial scripts. But sadly, it appears that nothing has been uploaded since 2011, and when I’ve tried to listen to these past posts, I keep getting an error message indicating that they are no longer available. So this one, too, might be null and void at this point.
So that’s my list so far. What about you? Do you have any #voiceover podcasts that you absolutely love? If so, please share! I’d love to keep my list — and my knowledge of all things VO — going!
